Farmhouse Fabrics   0 Farmhouse Fabrics is geared to the heirloom sewer, but anyone looking for top-notch goods is likely to find something here. Farmhouse stocks just a gorgeous selection of mostly lighter-weight cottons, linens, and silks. Designer finds show up regularly. Probably the best selection of fine cottons (great for shirts) on the web; in fact, they import many of their embroidered cottons from Switzerland themselves. Bias, cording, even covered buttons are available to match many of their fabrics. Liberty lawn. Huge selection of buttons including exquisite vintage ones. A bazillion kinds of lace and other trims. Frequent new arrivals, good descriptions. Fast shipping, and when you get your fabric it has a pretty ribbon tied around it. Love the Farmhouse! 6 Feb 08
Fashion Fabrics Club   5 The good news first. One of the biggest online fabric stores; at this writing it lists over 8,000 fabrics. Every basic you might need is here along with enough surprises to make it worth a browse (click All Fabrics and you'll see the newest ones first). Lots of Italian wool suitings and linens - search 'Italy' to turn them up. Frequent new arrivals. Now the bad news: the shopping experience is pretty dang unfriendly. Next-to-useless descriptions and poor photos, so buy 1/8 yard to be sure what you're getting. Why 1/8 yard? They don't offer swatches, and if you try to put more than five of these sample cuts into your cart - at $6.95 shipping - it won't let you. If you want your fabrics labelled you must ask them to in the Comments at checkout. They don't save your cart, their shipping is slow, and the fabric quality is sometimes great, sometimes truly awful. Let's all complain and see if they improve.   6 Feb 08

You are almost certain to find something you didn't know you desperately needed. Minimal descriptions.   21 Aug 08

Fine Fabrics   0 Wide range of apparel fabrics, all unusual. Vintage striped necktie silks, Sri Lankan cotton batiks, and designer fabrics from Armani, Missoni, Valentino, D&G. 150 colors of silk charmeuse. Some really way-out stuff. I don't generally comment on prices, but if you like to be shocked you can see laces priced at over $800 per yard, and one novelty fabric that's almost $1,200 per yard. It's 43 inches wide. Good descriptions & photos, anyway.   6 Feb 08

Hancock's of Paducah   1 These folks make it easy to browse the expanding universe of quilting fabrics. All major makers are here, but fabrics are searchable by style too. I like the descriptions (more websites should use language like 'high thread count gives it a wonderfully meaty hand') and they're informative as well as poetic. Now if they would only stick a ruler in their photos. Nice selection of home dec/crossover fabrics too.   30 Sep 08
Harts Fabric   1 The local fabric store you'll wish was in your town. Hart's well-chosen selection includes a gorgeous assortment of printed cottons. Hip selection of drapery and upholstery fabrics and some very nice designer fabrics. Carries swimsuit fabrics and lining, eco-felt made of recycled plastic, and a neat selection of lightweight home dec fabrics in those big modern prints you can do anything with. Also good basics. Complaint: one-yard minimums and no swatches!   6 Feb 08
Hawaii Fabric Mart.com   0 Everything in Hawaiian fabric: tropical print bark cloth, Hawaiian shirt rayons, oriental prints, and tropical home dec fabrics. Their cotton dobbies are neat retro-island themed shirting weight fabrics - think Jack Lord on the weekend, barbecue tongs in hand. Also handpainted silks, some brocades.   6 Feb 08

Wearable art-type garments or just a simple sleeveless sheath would be fabulous. Fabrics are printed to order. A Quilter's Pack is offered.   6 Feb 08

Top quality fabrics from Knoll, Maharam, Donghia, Jhane Barnes and others usually available only to decorators, these are absolutely gorgeous and very fairly priced. Every fabric they sell is green by virtue of being reclaimed, and they have some made from organic/sustainable fibers too.   8 Aug 08

It may look from the thumbnail that a fabric comes in just that one color, but click and you'll see sometimes dozens of other choices. Some standouts: silk jersey in 30+ colors, dupioni & crepe de chine in about a million. Double face silk satin, which I haven't come across anywhere else - and that's just the silks. They have other fibers too. Easy swatch ordering. Okay descriptions, minimal photos. Some fabrics have a multi-yard minimum so be sure to read the fine print. If you like quality basics like these you might also like B. Black & Sons. 17 Apr 09
